Dearest Art Lover and Fur Parent,

 

Hello, I'm Melinda- the artist behind The Unrolled Canvas. In case you wanted to know a little back story of the person behind the brush, here it is:

I've been married to my wonderful husband, Brian, for nearly ten years, and together we're raising three beautiful little ones. We also have 2 fur babies- our 10 year old Australian Shepherd mix, Sydney, and our cat distribution system win, Kira.  I'm currently in the thick of motherhood, and with 3 kids under 3, this is a season that has transformed me more than any other in my life. It's full, demanding, and deeply joyful. It's also a season that has reignited my need to create something that is entirely my own.

Art has always been a part of who I am. I grew up loving to paint and draw, took studio art and painting courses in high school, and later earned a degree in interior design at Miami University of Ohio. Over time, that foundation has grown into a lifetime of artistic experience, not just in how to create, but in how to apply that knowledge thoughtfully to whatever subject matter I'm painting.

I don't have a fancy studio space or the most high-end tools money can buy. What I do have is years of practice, intuition, and a deep understanding of my craft. One day I would love to have my own studio space in my home, but for now, my kitchen table after the kids go to bed is my studio and I'm very grateful for any space that allows me to create and express myself.

​

Today, I feel incredibly fortunate to use this gift to paint some of the most meaningful companions in people's lives. Creating custom pet portraits is especially close to my heart as they celebrate love, loyalty, and the quiet moments that make a house feel like home. Alongside commissioned work, I'm also enjoying the freedom of creating for myself and continuing to discover my signature style.

There is something really special about knowing one of my paintings may hang in someone's home for years to come, becoming part of their everyday life and something they'll treasure forever. That idea is what inspired me to open this online shop and begin sharing my work more widely, with hopes of offering many unique pieces and gifts in the future.

​

When I'm not painting, you'll usually find me cooking, decorating our home, or spending time with my family. Being a stay-at-home mom to my children is the greatest gift I could have ever been given, and art has become a meaningful way to honor both creativity and motherhood in this season of my life.

​
